The Occasional Solipsist

There is a huge worldwide series of rallies going on today in in support of Star Trek in general and in protest of the cancellation of Enterprise in particular. The big one is at the Paramount lot in LA with smaller rallies being held in major centers all around the world. I hadn't heard of anything close to me, and that might not be such a bad thing anyway. Superwife can only take so much and she IS pregnant so maybe seeing me on the news waving my hands in the Vulcan 'V' gesture might not be the best thing for my marriage. ;)

But I am so there in spirit.

From what I've read online, there is a big push to get the show sold to another network, possibly SciFi, and that would be great although it would also mean Canada would be screwed as far as watching new eps anytime soon. But they would be making new ones, and I do view filesharing as a personal crusade, so no worries there.

In other news, the job hunt is continuing apace. I made a decision around the end of December that while I love working from home fulfilling consulting and web project contracts, this kind of work is just not going to be secure enough for the family once the baby comes along. So to that end I've been looking for something with a modicum of security, with the intention of continuing to work on a contract basis as my free time permits. So far, free time has not been a problem.

Truth is I really haven't found very much yet. I've applied for a handfull of jobs but its becoming clear that the Niagara area isn't the technological mecha I might have wanted it to be. It's a little frustrating, particularly when I know that before making this decision I was totally content to work by the seat of my pants. Maybe I'll just un-decide to get a 'real job' and go back to those carefree days of not wondering where the next job is coming from.

It was surprisingly more fun than constantly looking for a fulltime gig.
